Agra Heritage FoodWalk!

If you want to be Touristy in Agra then winters are the best time to visit The City of Taj. The weather here is at its best during winters with a high/ low of 22/8 degrees.

Apart from the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, Agra is well known for its delicacies the most famous of which is ‘Bedami with Aloo ki Sabzi’. If you really want to cover all the famous Food joints of old Agra to try the ‘AUTHENTIC’ dishes then a guided foodwalk is the answer to it!

I recently had the opportunity to go on a foodwalk with Agra Heritage Walks. First of all I was amazed that we have such activities in Agra and secondly I loved our Team Leader Tahir Ahmed who guided us throughout the walk.

We started the walk at 10:00 am from Jama Masjid, Agra. Jama Masjid is the starting point of most of the walks since one can easily find it on google maps in the chaos of Old Agra and there is a proper paid parking where you can land your vehicles without worrying! The best part about the walk was that the entire walk was in the form of a narrative where we heard tell tales from the past and snacked on some sumptuous food at pitstops.

First Stop- Chand Basheer Hotel

So this place is basically a Hotel but they are famous for Chai with safed malai. They serve you regular chai with a twist of fresh malai. I’m not a “Tea Person” but I loved their chai and would definitely recommend it.

Second Stop- Chimman Lal Poori Wale

I think after the above picture I need not describe how heavenly this Thali was!!!! Chimman Lal poori wale is no ordinary food shop, they have historic significance and they’re as old as our Great Great Grandparents Estd. in 1840 . There speciality is aloo ki sabzi and poori in a leaf bowl with 3 different varieties of poori ie. plain , missi and bathua poori. We ordered a Premium Thali which had Aloo ki sabzi, pickle, green chutney, pumpkin sabzi, raita, 5 pooris and a Gulab Jamun! I know you already are dreaming about it and believe me it was yummm!!! The aloo ki sabzi had the perfect blend of spices and the pooris were crisp as well as melt in the mouth!

Third Stop- Pushpak Mishthan Bhandar, Sweets and SnacksAUVJsgkwQ0OHQbgoRauvWgMJ1x13aPTr2vsKCJI5t78A.jpg

I’m someone who’s born and brought up in Agra and have been eating Bedami since I was like 6 but trust me there’s no place in Agra as good as Pushpak Mishthan Bhandar when it comes to serving Bedami and Aloo ki Sabzi with a dash of curd. So Bedami has its own tell tale and long story short its a midway between Poori and Kajori ie. not too light and not too fulling.

Fourth Stop-  Munna Lal Mithai Wale9iL4LqK4RgSShesVCuPdMQ.jpgfullsizeoutput_1112.jpeg

In the midst of super spicy food Tahir surprised us with Moong ki Dal ka Halwa at Munna Lal Mithai Wale. Never imagined I’ll be hogging Halwa for Breakfast, but everything’s fair on a food trail, isn’t it? Munna Lal’s halwa was loaded with Ghee and Dry Fruits which makes it Rich and Delicious.

Fifth Stop-  Dal Pakwan Shop (The one with no name)PQblbcoGRU6mXQaRn6QG3Afullsizeoutput_111a.jpeg

Sorry guys but this place had no name. So these guys make the most crispy Dal Pakwan which is a Sindhi dish.  Dal Pakwan in layman’s words is a SUPER CRISPY BHATOORA served with spicy Chane ki dal sprinkled with chopped onions and green chillies. The best part about their Pakwan was, it was very light compared to other places as it was thin and crispy.

We ended the foodwalk with a kulhad of Meethi Lassi as all good things should end Sweetly!

I would highly recommend people from Agra to go take a Taste of their own City in the chaos of Old Agra as we know so little about our roots! Also if you’re a tourist in Agra and want to try all the delicacies FoodWalk is a very Good Idea if you want to explore different dishes in little time with guidance at the Most Renowned Shops.
