We often hear our friends and family members saying that “I need a break”, “I want to relax “, “Let’s just chill for a few days “, etc. Our ideas for a vacation , specially in summers are limited to foreign trips or going to a hill station🏕⛺️🏔⛱🎡🎢🎠🏰🗽🏟🗺
I recently finished with a really hectic schedule , every bit of me was screaming VACATION and like everyone else I started making plans with family and friends but somehow no plan could be materialised until a friend of mine casually told me how her parents take her to Naturopathy centres every year for holidays!
Ok so let me tell you, I am an enthusiaat! I literally want to try everything and the idea of a DETOX vacation sounded super cool to me and moreover I have health conscious parents so I knew they would not refuse to this deal!
After surfing google and consulting all our acquaintances we decided to go for a 5 days trip to Sanjeevani Kayashodhan which is in Gohana, a small village in Haryana. Gohana is a 2 hours drive(maximum) from the capital city, New Delhi. The only way to reach Gohana is by a bus or car. If you want to take the train, board one from Delhi to Panipat or Sonipat and then take a cab or bus for Gohana.
The Naturopathy centre was divided into two parts-
2. Main building which comprised of treatment area, reception, gym, yoga hall, physiotherapy centre, acupressure centre , clinic, salon and a store.
The entire setup was surrounded with gardens, trees and orchards. Moreover the Naturopathy centre was connected to the Ashram which was again an abode to extremely beautiful scenery.
We decided to drive to Gohana from Agra which was a smooth 5 hours drive. We reached there by 11 am and got ourselves registered. Every entrant has to fill a detailed form, get there body measurements and consult the doctor on arrival. Once the formalities are done, the Treatment begins! Also if you reach there before 10 am you have the luxury of indulging in both morning and evening schedules!
Let me tell you how a day at the centre looks like!
Sharp at 5 in the morning you’ll get a WAKE UP CALL from the reception for Shatkarma. Shatkarma refers to the yogic practices involving purification of body.
Following are included in Shatkarma-
1. Kunjal kriya
2. Jala Neti
3. Sutra Neti
4. Basti (Yogic Enema)
After Shatkarma we were supposed to have 2-3 glasses of lukewarm water with honey and lemon.
YOGA TIME BABY 🧘🏻♂️
Yoga means addition of energy, strength and beauty to body, mind and soul. Yoga is not just about touching toes, it is about what you learn on the way down!
I’m going to share a few asanas I learnt there and their benefits! Here we go-
The Bridge yoga pose is a great front hip joints opener, it also strengthens your spine, opens the chest, and improves your spinal flexibility in addition to stimulating your thyroid. This pose brings many benefits to your body, such as the relief from stress, anxiety, insomnia and it can help with depression.
The Child Pose is a resting pose useful to relieve neck, back and hip strain. While in the posture you should have slow and regulated breath; extended arms; resting hips and your forehead should be touching the mat. You can always return to this pose as at it is one of the most restorative and calming pose.
The Four Limbed Staff yoga pose strengthens your arms, wrists and abdomen. It is also a good preparation pose for more challenging arm balancing poses
The Chair yoga position tones your leg muscles, strengthens your hip reflexors, ankles, calves and back. It stretches the chest and shoulders. It reduces symptoms of flat feet and it stimulates your heart, diaphragm, and abdominal organs.
The Tree yoga pose may seems as another easy posture but it is not a resting asana. Your back should be aligned property (extended), your hips should be at one level, and since your stability depends on the distribution of your weight on your standing leg ensure you do while maintaing and improving your balance.
The Boat yoga requires for one to be stable (as a boat) which means, straight back, chin looking forward, while knees and arms are locked. This is not an easy posture. Through it you build strong abdominal and core strength.
The King Dancer yoga pose strengthens your legs, improves balance and core strength while also stretches your shoulders and improves your focus. It is one of the most graceful asana.
The Corpse yoga pose is one of the most important postures. It is meant to rejuvenate your mind and body after practice while also allowing you to shift your attention to your inner-self. The benefits: lowering your blood pressure, calming you and giving your body the opportunity to obsorb all of the benefits you worked out for.
Was officially Chill mode on😎
I utilised this time to hang out with new people, play carrom, table tennis 🏓 or cycle around the ashram !
We used to get breakfast from 8:00 to 9:00 am. Breakfast generally included
a. A glass of sweet lime juice
b. Some dry fruits ( almonds, walnuts, munakka and figs)
c. Porridge/ Poha
After breakfast we had to rush to the therapy centre, there we spent good 2.5 – 3 hours. Everyday was a surprise since the therapies which we were supposed to get each day were different and marked in our files which were under the custody of Mamta Di(the head) and not known to us. Each one of us had different routines according to age and our body type. The various therapies included-
2. Mud bath
6. Mitti patti
7. Towel wrap
8. Local stem
9. Hip bath
10. Hand and feet bath
12. Mud pool
16. Spine bath and much more.
Lunch was served at 12. There were two combinations of lunch. One included all fruits diet and the other one was a proper roti meal.
Following are the few options we were served.
This was supposed to be nap time and we could use it to play indoor games, interact with people or maybe take a nap!
It was called “Falahar” which means fruit feeding! This time everyone was given a bowl of fruit. Doctors here believe that our body can process only one fruit at a time!
It’s therapy time guys!!!! Evening therapy was almost a repetition of the morning routine with some additions!
This time again we had to assemble in the yoga hall for group meditation 🧘🏻♂️. People were free to go for a walk or they could cycle around the place or play outdoor games or even go for a swim .
The green house-The lake-Cattle ranch-
Dinner time folks! Dinner was again divided in two sets, fruit meal and nchapatti meal. Here are a few dinner options.
This was milk time and also an indication that it’s also time to sleep! We used to get warm milk with munakka and haldi, which is beneficial for a good sleep.
We were advised to sleep by 10 at night since we had to wake up early. All lights at the Aawas reception were turned off by 10 and we were told to go to our rooms!
So this is the schedule one is supposed to follow ! There’s highly any time to think about anything except your body! Whenever we had breaks we could visit physiotherapy centre, acupressure centre or gym!
It’s literally eat massage sleep repeat!
Since my main motive was detox, on the fifth day I participated in a drill called SHANKHPRAKSHALAN! It’s a full body detox! I would definitely recommend everyone to do it! It’s a natural version of colon therapy.
The entire experience taught me the importance of being disconnected and what a Chill vacation actually means!
In all I would definitely recommend an yearly trip to the Naturopathy centre with your family or friends, because company matters.
I’m leaving a link to their website so you can checkout the details!
